Leaking Styles

27 June 2003 · Last updated: 15 October 2006

I have discovered a strange effect that occurs when using alternative stylesheets. These are the ones you can select above to change the look of the page. Each one is a separate file, yet I have found that a style set in one can be applied when a different style is chosen! So a page becomes a mix of the two! Even though the styles are not all applied at once.

To see the effect, I've created an article called Leaking Styles*, which also shows the code used. The odd thing to me is that the effect occurs in all three major browsers I use. So is it meant to happen? Let me know what you think.

*Update 7 June 2004: The article has been withdrawn.
