Comments

I am pleased to announce two new extras to do with comments posted here. The first is a list of the last five ten comments topics posted in, displayed on the side menu. The second is an RSS 2.0 feed containing the latest comment. Both extras allow you to keep track of newly posted comments much more easily.

I hope to improve the code used for posting comments later. But right now I'm busy working on a new database of all the posts I've made, which will allow them to be searched. They will also be listable by category, along with various other ways that will remain a secret for now.

Your comments script is so cool!

I followed your comment from another PHP script. So if what you have here really just a re-vamp of that one?

Do you have a tutorial of this anywhere?

Yeah, my comment system is the same one, but tweaked here and there.

The new side links are just a file that gets updated every time someone makes a comment. Then when the main page is viewed, the file is included via a single line of basic PHP.

The XML feed works in a similar way, only last night I realised it was a bit pointless. If ten comments are made in one day, and the feed is only checked daily, then nine of the comments won't be seen! (Because the feed only stores the last comment.) I plan to get round this, but the code seems pretty long-winded in my head right now.

Thanks for the feedback felix! I consider the comments system too primitive for a tutorial - there are much better ones out there that can handle styled text and more. (I want to add styled text as well and thought of a great way to do this yesterday.)
