I made a new version of my Alternative Abbreviations Demo from 2005 following the advice from Moose in the comments. Now the abbreviations appear at the top, rather than reflowing the text as before.

This demo generates vertical text without using images. The code outputs one or more columns, with a few special effects possible. Since the text is not in an image, other effects may be created by tweaking the code as you see fit.
